'1461' for those that know, know. (northamptonshire april 1961)
this was originally going to be part of the 'dad dancing' series, but as i had the drawing hanging around it felt right to paint it.
the 'pure' series that explores short phrases or sentences. they are simple to look at, yet they can hide a complex process of colour choices, positioning and relationship to the text.
there's a saying that a picture paints a thousand words, but sometimes a phrase or a selection of words can raise questions or take you on a journey. it all depends on the words used and what order they are placed. it's an adventure creating vivid images from my weirdly fascinating mind, which is not always pure!
or in fact, the words just might make you smile
