'a weeks worth'

ever caught yourself staring at your calendar and realising it’s quietly trolling you? there’s a ridiculous pattern i noticed — every single week throws a solid “wtf” in your face. i’m not even joking. it’s right there: wednesday. thursday. friday.

mind-blown yet?

we’ve all been there. monday rolls around and suddenly your bed feels like it’s made of quicksand. we’ve even started giving the days personalities, like they’re characters in some unhinged workplace sitcom. monday’s that friend who turns up at your door far too early — coffee breath, aggressively upbeat, no respect for boundaries.

tuesday is just monday with a fake moustache. nice try, mate.

then wednesday bursts in like a motivational poster come to life: “halfway there!” (thanks… i think?) thursday’s the friend who keeps whispering “weekend’s almost here” every five minutes, and friday — oh friday, you beautiful unicorn — makes everything feel possible.

right up until sunday evening, when your brain quietly starts its familiar “oh no” spiral all over again.

answers on a postcard extends and develops ideas from the mad as a box of frogs series. the work addresses the familiar dilemma between producing originals and limited editions — a question that often invites conflicting responses. in this instance, the decision is intentionally rooted in the original.

the series reflects a longstanding interest in language, idiomatic phrases and humour, bringing these elements together through painted text. the selected phrases are chosen for their wit and lightness, inviting a moment of quiet amusement for the viewer.

each piece is hand-painted on canvas, paper or board. the works are completed using a model maker’s magnifying lamp and a fine 5/0 brush, allowing for precision and close attention to detail - oh dear, my poor eyesight!

and i hope they give the viewer a giggle too.
