'changing season, yorkshire'

i am very lucky to live in yorkshire, i love everything it offers and over the last five years have enjoyed the changing of seasons, at times, almost hour by hour. as part of this luck, my studio overlooks a valley, i can just see emley tower , although that part of my view is slightly obscured by silver birch trees. the rest spans farmland, both arable and pastoral farming making the fields very different both in texture and colour from day to day. this painting explores in its simplicity some of the beauty and colour transformations i come across as a drink in the view as well as my specialist coffee, yeah its reet grand!

once seen explores the interplay of text in response to a chosen word or theme, connected through a hidden perpendicular placement of related words. the intention is that the viewer has to search the text to enable them to locate the ‘hidden word’, giving that ‘ah ha’ moment; once the hidden message has been deciphered, it will always be seen, hence the phrase "once seen". the manipulation of typography flows across the surface, forming cryptic messages that reveal various facets of the selected word.
