'matchmaker'

i orginally did this piece as a painting - infact as a wedding gift, my wife thought it would be a great idea to paint something for her cousin and now husband, a comedian, simon. the humour, thankfully wasn't lost on them, included within the painting was a stylised version of the 1970s love is couple. i had ordered a selection of vintage swan vesta matchboxes for another piece of work and thought was right to revisit this idea.

the phrase "the perfect match, your face, my arse" is a vulgar and humorous way of saying something is the opposite of a perfect match, like saying "it's a perfect match for your face, my arse" but in a nonsensical, reversed, and insulting way. it's a sarcastic and crude insult used to mock someone or a situation by suggesting an absurd and terrible pairing, rather than a good one. the phrase is a play on words, replacing "your face" with "my arse" to create a deliberately absurd and offensive image

mad as a box of frogs is an eclectic series of original works intricately contained within a defined box frame size. the words and phrases used may resonate with people, situations, or even abstract concepts. the content often weaves together elements of humour and confrontational themes. many pieces creatively manipulate the shape and form of the text itself, drawing the viewer's attention. the artwork explores various themes through a mixed media approach. while the phrase evokes a visual image, it is not meant to be taken literally.

it serves as a figure of speech that reflects the work that excites me and ideally captivates the viewer as well.
