my eyes have always followed you around the room
new work from the once seen series.this piece emerged through a process of coincidence and discovery. as i sketched and painted, the shapes began to feel like a crowd—clustered, watchful, and in quiet motion. an early working title was we’re in the out crowd, but the final title comes from a noel gallagher lyric i’ve always loved; it felt instinctively right for the work.
once seen explores the interplay between text and form, responding to a chosen word or theme through typography and spatial arrangement. central to each piece is a hidden word, placed perpendicularly and embedded within the composition. the viewer is invited to search the surface, scanning fragments of text until the concealed word is located, producing an “aha” moment of recognition.
once the hidden message has been deciphered, it cannot be unseen—hence the phrase once seen. typography drifts across the surface, forming cryptic messages that describe different facets of the selected word. meaning unfolds through looking, time, and attention, rewarding the viewer’s persistence with discovery.
