'nemawashi - the rooted path'
'nemawashi - the rooted path'grew from evening walks through local woodland, following farm tracks as daylight faded and unseen roots occasionally caught an unwary foot. like the title itself, the work is rooted in connections — between place, memory, and the paths we choose to follow.
rather than depicting a single walk, the painting weaves together fragments of many journeys and recollections. woodland paths merge with remembered routes, creating a landscape that exists somewhere between observation and experience.
living where we do, evening often brings a remarkable glow across the valley. it is a fleeting light that jo finds herself returning to again and again, watching as the landscape softens and settles into dusk. that familiar luminosity threads its way through the painting, illuminating the woodland and lending warmth to the tangle of roots and pathways below.
the result is a work about navigation — both literal and emotional — where every path carries traces of those that came before, and where the journey is as important as the destination.
