'red indian'
this piece is part of the 'breathless' series that explores my life with sleep apnea and having to use a cpap machine. after some years of snoering (increasingly getting louder) jo noticed that during my sleeping hours, i would spasm and stop breathing, i would wake up dripping wet and at the time drank roughly 24 strong coffees per day.
eventually, i was diagnosed with sleep apnea, during tests, they established that i stopped breathing for 40 seconds a minute and that i was suffering with extreme sleep deprivation to a point that i should have died.
using the mask is a lifeline, and it travels everywhere with me.
the painting went through many colour changes and to me i looked like a native north american, mentally inspired by the film last of the mohicans!
