'the naughty corner'

this was part of the original mad as a box of frogs series. it continued on from the canvas paintings of the 'swear box' and personally it was a throw back to ealry parenting, in our case our son was sent to the naughty step, something that over time we realised didn't give thre required punishment of not being part of family time, he could still see the tv and hear/see us moving around. later, the naughty corner was founded. i have unfortunately seen this being used in a classroom with students with asd - something that still makes my skin crawl.

mad as a box of frogs is an eclectic series of original works intricately contained within a defined box frame size. the words and phrases used may resonate with people, situations, or even abstract concepts. the content often weaves together elements of humour and confrontational themes. many pieces creatively manipulate the shape and form of the text itself, drawing the viewer's attention. the artwork explores various themes through a mixed media approach. while the phrase evokes a visual image, it is not meant to be taken literally.

it serves as a figure of speech that reflects the work that excites me and ideally captivates the viewer as well.
