'well you didn't
this piece was in response to the constant bleating by jo public. good grief, how many times have i heard it before, whether its a conversation with fellow 'art critics (general public in this case) or a form of criticism or as of todays instant world - on every social media platform known to man. i could do that. i could paint that blue canvas. i could set up a fan in a glass box. i could duct-tape a banana to a wall. i could do modern art. it’s not that hard, right?
is a common reaction to art that appears simple, but it often overlooks the artist's concept, intention, and the specific skills involved, as well as the historical and social context of the work. it is a response that fails to consider the idea, planning, and craftsmanship that result in the final piece. instead of dismissing the art, a more helpful approach is to ask why the artist created it, what skills they used, and what the work signifies.
mad as a box of frogs is an eclectic series of original works intricately contained within a defined box frame size. the words and phrases used may resonate with people, situations, or even abstract concepts. the content often weaves together elements of humour and confrontational themes. many pieces creatively manipulate the shape and form of the text itself, drawing the viewer's attention. the artwork explores various themes through a mixed media approach. while the phrase evokes a visual image, it is not meant to be taken literally.
it serves as a figure of speech that reflects the work that excites me and ideally captivates the viewer as well.
